PHL reaps gold in Int’l Earth Science Olympiad

The Philippines medal haul in the most prestigious math and science competitions in the world continues as four high school students net gold, silver and bronze medals in the recently concluded 5th International Earth Science Olympiad.
Taking home honor for the Philippines from Modena, Italy where the competition was held were gold medalist Williard Joshua Jose of Philippine Science High School (PSHS) Main Campus, silver medalists Christoper Jan Landicho of PSHS Bicol Region Campus and Charles Kevin Tiu of St Jude Catholic School in Manila and bronze medalist John Allan Olesco of Aquinas University Science High School. Jose won a silver medal in last year’s IESO held in Nigeria.
The winning team was mentored by Prof. Miguel Cano of Bicol University and Dr. Marietta de Leon. PSHS Main Campus Director Dr. Helen Caintic joined as an observer.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare monthly financial reports of operation of the agency, monthly statements of authorized appropriations, expenditures and unexpended balances of research projects per COA and other regulation;
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual reports/remittance to Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR);
- Draft correspondence for review of the Chief Accountant;
- Handle general ledger and all special journals and subsidiary journals to monitor accuracy of the accounts;
- Reconcile subsidiary accounts with General Ledger Accounts, the Treasury Account, and the Current and Checking Accounts of the Agency as required by the COA rules and regulations;
- Review and process the reports of collection, disbursement and related documents to monitor adherence to proper fund management;
- Examine and analyze supporting documents of vouchers for legality, priority, correctness of account codes and properly approved by the authorities to ensure proper disbursement of expenditures; and
- Perform such other duties as may be assigned from time to time for effective and efficient delivery of service of the Institute.

- Lead the development and maintenance of project website and social media account;
- Prepare communications, memoranda, speeches, press releases and write-ups related to the conduct of various activities under the project;
- Prepare proposals, presentations, and initial reports relative to the implementation of the project;
- Assist in planning, development and implementation of Values Formation Program and other activities under the project;
- Assist in gathering and processing of data for research activities of the project;
- Assist in coordinating with relevant sectors and institutions in the implementation of the project; and

- Assist in the review and revision of operational procedures and processes for the implementation of projects of the Division;
- Prepare technical and financial reports related to implementation and monitoring of projects of the Unit; and
