The Philippines bags six medals at the International Math Olympiad

Every one of the six-member Philippine team to the recently concluded 62nd International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) made the country proud by each winning a medal at one of the most difficult and most prestigious mathematics competitions in the world.
Immanuel Josiah Balete of St. Stephen's High School, Raphael Dylan Dalida of Philippine Science High School - Main Campus, Steven Reyes of Saint Jude Catholic School, and Bryce Ainsley Sanchez of Grace Christian College each won a silver medal in the Olympics of math competitions. Meanwhile, Sarji Elijah Bona of De La Salle University - Senior High School and Vincent Dela Cruz of Valenzuela City School of Mathematics and Science each took home a bronze medal.
DOST-SEI hails 785 JLSS qualifiers

This, as the Department of Science and Technology - Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) announced said number of qualifiers to its Junior Level Science Scholarships (JLSS), a program for incoming regular third year college students who are enrolled in priority science and technology courses.

From dungeons to DNA, the world’s toughest competitive programming challenges were no match for these Filipino high schoolers.
Three Filipino high school kids just bagged three bronze medals in the most prestigious and most difficult competitive programming event in the world. Vincent Dela Cruz, Raphael Dylan Dalida, and Frederick Ivan Tan earned bronze medals at the recently-concluded 33rd International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI), besting hundreds of contestants from over 80 countries.
The IOI is one of the world’s biggest science olympiads. The two-day competition—hosted this year by Singapore from June 19 to 25, 2021, but held online due to the pandemic—featured a gauntlet of programming challenges that tested competitors’ coding skills and creativity, with problems involving everything from a dungeons game to mutating DNA.
DOST-SEI fetes women’s role in pandemic response

“Our women scientists, doctors, and frontliners are the brains, heart, and soul of our nation’s pandemic response,” Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) Director Josette T. Biyo said at the inauguration of the Institute’s March-long celebration of National Women’s Month.
“Even as the nation salutes their tireless efforts, so too do we take this month to celebrate their nurturing strength. You are inspirations to us all, and we cannot thank you enough,” Biyo added. She challenged all SEI employees to continue to campaign and mainstream gender equality in all of the institute’s programs, projects, and activities.
