Science Camp helps kids make career decisions

In response to the new education and career landscape brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of Science and Technology – Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) recently held a special online edition of its Climate Science Youth Camp to help high schoolers plot their future.
Held annually since 2009, with only a brief respite in 2020 due to the pandemic, the DOST-SEI Climate Science Youth Camp brings together scientists and researchers to give students and teachers a close-up glimpse at nature and how to take care of it.
World’s largest science film festival kicks off at NSTW

The Department of Science and Technology – Science Education Institute, together with the Goethe-Institut Philippines, will be screening the 12th annual Science Film Festival for free at this year’s National Science and Technology Week, from November 22 to 28, 2021.
Since 2005, the Science Film Festival has been celebrating science communication in Southeast Asia and is now the largest event of its kind in the world. This year’s festivities include 35 science edutainment films—on topics ranging from cloud computing and biology to climatology and epidemiology—tied together by the theme, “Better Health Through Better Understanding.” The festival looks back on the challenges and milestones the world has faced in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, empowering viewers to take better care of themselves and the environment.
DOST-SEI to hold virtual CBPSME scholars’ conference on STEM education

Beyond the obvious changes in the academic landscape caused by the CoViD-19 pandemic, there is new awareness about the critical need to address diversities and inequities in education. This will come to light when the Department of Science and Technology-Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI), in collaboration with the National Consortium in Graduate Science and Mathematics Education (NCGSME), holds the first virtual National Research Conference in Science and Mathematics Education on 10-12 November 2021.
The Capacity Building Program in Science and Mathematics Education (CBPSME) continuing and new scholars, scholar-graduates, and faculty members of the NCGSMSE member-universities will come together to gain updates on new developments in STEM education, present research outputs, and establish linkages for potential collaborations in science and mathematics education (SME).
